Some Holmes 750 action

Got the 24" fitting finished up this morning with the 12" in the side . All went well , no injuries LOL !

Made a cardboard template to cut the hole in the side of the 24" . Then used screws to attach the joint for now and guy wire to hold it firm on angle .

Loaded pipe , concrete forms , & rebar on trailer and dropped it off at job site this afternoon . God willing and it don't rain tonight we will mount it in the morning .

Drilled the 36 " culvert this afternoon with 3/8 bit to center the hole for the 24 " riser .

I'm always wary of the plastic ADS pipe going egg shape & funky as we are teeing in to a buried pipe .

Took some time and added some shoring on the inside of the 36" before I cut the 24 " hole in it .

Loaded the ruck on the creeper & crawled in the tunnel with flashlight pointing the way to the junction point . Pulled that idea off an old 1960's movie " The Great Escape " .

Where's Steve McQueen & Charles Bronson when I need them? :)

Rained again last night , site was a little sloppy this morning but was able to prepare the buried 36" culvert for surgery .

Set concrete forms yesterday evening . Dug down & exposed the pipe this morning , used a makeshift compass to make the radius line .

Then cut it out with a Stihl hole saw . Seemed to work pretty good . Got the fitting secured with screws on the bottom & couple kickers on top along with some expanding foam to seal the joint .

Might get to pour concrete Monday if the rain holds off . Will fill form about a foot deep at first then stack it up around the joint at an angle .

Yeah truck shop . I had mixed feelings about it from the beginning .

My first thought was build it out of steel . That would have worked fine . Only problem was my sheet steel guy was behind & could not get it done when we needed it .

Same story from the ADS dealer . Gave me a long story how complicated it was to build the fitting or a longer wait on a factory ADS tee .

What I like most about this approach is it was easy , cost effective , and we end up with a structural load bearing fitting in the end .

A red crayon seems to work good for scribing the cut line . Guess I better return my 2 year old daughters crayon . LOL !

750 sling rig up

This is my favorite rig up for pulling on a stuck truck or for hauling one in .

I like to take the 5/8 chain under the axil & choke around the frame . Cant always do this with accessories along frame rails but do it whenever possible .

Along with my trusty aluminum angle & plywood axil covers . LOL !:D

Has never failed me , very stable & solid hook up . Picker up & mash the peddle . :)

Do it similar on a rear tow job . On this tandem Mack ran 5/8 chains down to the camel back trunnion boss .

One other handy addition we did on the 750 bed was add a goose neck hitch . It's mounted just behind the fifth wheel plate . Flip open a hinged door in the bed and hook up the Corn Pro trailer when needed .

Pretty hard to beat those Holmes units for versatility.:D

Truck Shop
They really work good for me being I'm just a small one horse operation , try to get the most out of the truck . Keep some hand & power tools in the 750 box , I don't try to carry the whole shop with me . Both trucks are set up with gas drive Miller welders and torch tanks .

Dad's retired & don't mind helping once in awhile . Pretty funny at times when we look at a new job he reminds me of it , sais " Now you know I'm retired and staying that way " .

Old Gimmy movin a grain bin .

I screwed up yesterday & almost ran it out of fuel . My body was moving faster than the brain could keep up . LOL!

That picture with the boom swung out repairing the pan really shows the versatility of your unit.
I didn't know that they were pivotable.

Yeah Jason , the swing out boom is pretty handy . We have them pulling / lifting off the side about as often as the rear .

Bed also has a manual pinned outrigger for lifting off the side . Main thing is we keep the trucks parked under roof & all the joints greased well so everything slides & pivots easy when we need it .

Transmission is a 10 speed RT610 , rears are 34,000 Eaton's with 5.57 ratio .

45 to 50 MPH is top speed . It's a retired Military unit . But far from retirement in our operation , use it all the time .

We got the 24" riser installed early this week . Started raining on me shortly after we pulled the concrete forms . Was able to backfill & pack though the first shower . Then second wave of rain came through & shut us down for a few day's . Wet summer so far but that's cool , good for crops .

Gathered up tile , 12" double wall , & assorted ADS fittings Friday so we could work today .

Got it all tied in with exception of about 50' of 4" perforated on top of the hill . Pretty much out of usable fill material in the hole .

Need to install "dirt blade " on dozer & start hogging out the road and bring down some fill dirt .

This site is pretty much an erosion control challenge , I think we got that problem licked with the 24" drop pipe & tile lines leading in to it .

Road should go in easy .

Really happy with the 5' ditch bucket on the excavator . So far it's worked better on this job then the tooth bucket would .

In the first photo had to cut a little ground and throw in some " false fill " to make grade for the 12" pipe . Used bucket to roll in & compact the fill then jack the machine sideways to pull off a funky side swipe move to make grade on the bottom , no tilt twist bucket option on this rig . :)

Dang that brings back memories.
I remember bringing dad lunch while he was wrenching on one just like that in the 80s.
