My first "big truck" ride

Dad purchased this old boom truck in 1976. In a short time I was in the seat and spent many hours with this old rig. 1962 White 4000, C180 naturally aspirated Cummins, Fuller 5 speed main and 4 speed aux trannys. Before my days of driving this truck were done I could shift that main and hog box as well as any Roadranger. And the sound of that little Cummins with no turbo, the only engine I've drove that sounded as good as that thing did was a 6-71 Detroit pegged on the governor under load. That's dad (RIP) standing on ground and brother on the scaffold, we were installing a 50' wide and 30' high roll up steel door.

Yep, floaters all around Mitch. With those tires, and long wheelbase, you'd be surprised how well that truck rode.

I still own the 1977 IH that my father bought new and I learned to drive a truck in about 1979. I'll add a pic or 2 of her when I get my laptop back.

Life has since moved on, truck was sold, dad passed away in 2002, and I've been pursuing my own directions for many years. Not long ago, while traveling to a job site down a road I rarely travel and only about 10 miles from my current work place, I stumbled across the old White. Astonished, I thought this thing was long gone. Of course she's a little rough now, and it would be a shame for an old truck like this to turn into a pile of rust, or worse, end up at a scrap yard. It would be awesome if someone would restore this old rig, she was a beauty when she had a shine to her.
