Ok, for starters this engine should be an external damper L10 and there should be marks "A", "B" and "C" on the face of the accessory drive pulley.

The broken pieces were preventing the timing from maintaining postion when the engine was cranked over, varing by as much as 30 degrees.
All better now.
followed all the directions in the manual, will not start. I do get some smoke out the stack, but it doesn't even try to fire/kick. Anyone have a suggestion or trick I could employ?
