    Had a good laugh today.

Got a call this morning from somebody that I don't deal with much, his 2008 C15 Acert would not start. SDP s/n prefix, this engine has been deleted, has a single turbo manifold kit, and a hot rod program installed. It wont start because the ECM died... Now he has to get a new one and hope it can...

    N-14 noise

Now for my next headache, Got an N-14 Redtop making a strange noise, at times it sounds like a valve lash noise, at other times it sounds like an exhaust gasket leak. Customer has changed out all the exhaust gaskets and ran the overhead and had a cylinder cut out test done, all 6 cylinders are...

    Locked up Series 60

This morning I got a frantic phone call to look at an early 90's Series 60 that wouldn't turn over, got the trusty breaker bar out and put it on the accessory drive... thing wont even rock. UH oh... Then I get the story. The clutch came apart and they called in a moonlighter to change it out (I...

Already have 40+ shooters lined up. Anybody that wants to come visit is welcome. I'm the poor schmuck that has...

    C-11 ACERT, Opinions...?

Got a customer looking a newer Peterbilt with an Acert C11. 98,000 original miles, I don't know the year, ESN, or HP rating. He just wants to know if it's worth looking at. His primary use will be pulling a 45 ft grain trailer 400 (empty for half that) miles a day for 2-3 months a year. I have...

    Check your bolt threads... Please.

Yesterday I got to pull the pan on an N-14 to fix a big oil leak. The owner let his "mechanic" do the rods and mains. When he reinstalled the pan he mixed up some bolts. Fine thread in the block and coarse thread in the front and rear. Nothing like doing Helicoil repairs overhead. :bash2

3406E with a "Driver" uprate job

This morning I get an angry phone call from a customer, seems his truck is sitting at the ryegrass rest area dripping oil and blowing white smoke... Last September I replaced the head on this truck, it was pressurizing the cooling system something fierce. The machine shop said the head was junk...

Saw a really nasty one today

It's not in a truck, but I got a call from a well driller today to look at a C-16 Cat industrial that lost oil pressure. The pan was off when I got there and full of... get this... Gear teeth and a chewed up 3/8"x1.25" bolt. They were worried about where the bolt came from :bangh. I said "from...

    349A Jakes

So... I have a customer's truck in the shop and it's my first rodeo with 349s on a 3406B. Complaint was no retarding force. Turns out these were added to the truck about 6 years ago and have never worked right. My assumption... right or wrong, is that the trigger valves were never set initially...

First time ever in 30 years

Yesterday I was pulling the C-brakes off of a BC 290 and yep... I dropped a stud nut :bangh. The oil was already out of the pan so I went prospecting, the nut hit the pan in a flatter area so I got my small nylon hammer and tapped around 'til I heard it bounce, then "hopped" it to the sump...

    Jurassic Park

The 2 stroke dinosaurs are back on the road. It's spud harvest season here and I have seen a bunch of well preserved older Detroits on the road lately, Mostly 10 wheelers with all manner of 71 series engines. Puts a big smile on my face. Got a call this morning about an 8V-71 "no start" and...

    Observations...

Anybody watch the oversize loads on the freeway? I've noticed the guys with the 48' drop decks hauling the mid size excavator that is 4'' over width have a huge bank of "scary" warning light bars front and rear. But the real heavy haulers with the 3+3+3 trailers hauling a huge dozer just have a...

    Still building Classics

Went out to do a repair job this morning and was running parallel to I-90 and saw a brand new W900B on the freeway. Looked like one straight out of the early 80s, Dual chrome everything, tall tip out stacks, 40' sleeper, and a black and metallic gold paint job. I have no idea what the...

    What s going on here?

Both here and at HEF I'm having huge issues with my scroll feature and the "back button" and as I type this it's all underlined in red, like spellcheck. I also have to keep banging the refresh button just to do anything. I'm on several other forums with zero issues. Just these 2 sites are...
