This is my first post on here. Want to thank in advance for any replies.

Truck is a 2004 international 4300 with a pre egr dt466e. Was purchased through richie brothers auction up here in edmonton alberta back in september. Drove through the auction ring.

Then buyer never payed for it and was put back in auction for october where it was listed as inoperable (would not start). Between september and october truck accumulated 7km and 5hr on the cluster.

Now that i purchased it. We towed it back to the shop. Traced wiring had ecm tested. all seems fine. however we cannot connect to diagnostics using mac scan tool. truck of course does not start.

So far we have tested relays and fuses in engine bay. traced b+ wiring to ecm from battery and relays aswell as from fuse. (pins 1, 2, 21, 22, and 41) We also tested for continuity between diagnostics port and ecm connector. all is well.
gage cluster does its sweep. Took ecm out and had international test it. they were able to connect and read it with no issues.

Any ideas are of great help.

I know these were terrible for Cam sensors. Other than that you need to get connected so you can see some data to go any further. Fuel pressure would be another place to look as well.

Yes I have heard that about cam sensors. I am thinking my next plan of attack my be to reinstall the computer. change ignition tumbler.(key is quite loose) Clean all grounds. clean connectors to computer. clean engine fuse compartment. Then try computer diagnostics again. Hopefully i can get it to talk.

I always load test the circuits, often a circuit will light a test light or show continuity on a multi meter, but won't carry a load, I use a seal beam headlight , low is about 5 amps, hi 10 amps and both 15. if the scan tool won't read, I would suspect key on power to the ECM, since the ECM tested good.

Well a little more tinkering. Now ecm is back in and connected. We can get a connection with scan tool now. However no codes are present. Put in some new batteries. Cranks great. Smoke coming out the exhaust. On Ether it kicks and kicks but just wont go. On diesel it tries but less promising than ether. We have 50psi oil pressure. 1000psi high pressure oil. Going to try changing both fuel filters Drain tanks and refill with some fresh diesel. Made a short video of truck cranking but dont know how to link it to here.

Do you show engine RPM while cranking? If no RPM suspect CAM sensor. Oil side looks good. Run it out of a bucket of fresh fuel to eliminate contaminated fuel source and get a pressure guage hooked up if you can.

while cranking if i remember it is somewhere around 400-500rpm i believe. i did briefly look and notice tach moved. cannot remember exactly what it was at.
