I figured you guys would like that .

Even had it in stock from a failed chainsaw . Drilled & tapped for 5/8 thread & installed .

I've always liked Golf balls for replacement knobs. They drill and tap well and don't turn your hands black. But the piston is kinda cool.

People used to chuckle when they saw my scrapers (the Wabco and TS-24) with the golf balls everywhere but I could run all day with clean hands, Had custom leather covers made for the steering wheels too, That 40 year old black stuff really wore off on your hands and I didn't care to wear gloves operating. Golf balls were easy to get at the time, my son was working grounds care at the golf course a mile away and did some freelance caddying too. He knew exactly who to schmooze... He's now a machinist for one of those guys.

Right on about the about the old school black on the hands RZ !:)

The golf ball idea would work great on any piece of equipment , back hoe , farm tractor , anything . I like it

That's great your son is a machinist now . Imagine he picked up a few tricks from the " Old Man " .

My boy will turn 7 pretty soon . Quite a handful at that age . Have to pull the battery terminals off on equipment so he won't fire it up & take off .

And have gave him the time old speech of how " We always put our tool's up when finished with a project " . LOL !:laugh

They love to get in on the action at that age , mind like a sponge soaking it all in .:)

Got started on the pond clean out job . Two ponds , went in with excavator first to prep .

This one was just about completely silted in . Drained off the surface water first .

Waded in as far as I was comfortable with ...... This stuff is kind of " semi solid " . Could probably track across the pond one time with it . I stopped about halfway & bailed out what I could . Muck is about 9 feet deep in the center .

Time to drop on some Doobie Brothers .....

And had Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup for lunch warmed up on the Detroit .

Don't know about other opinions but I think it tastes better that way . LOL :laugh

I think I have warmed about anything that comes in a can on equipment engines, Soup, Chili, Ravioli is good too. Vee type Detroits are the best, set the can between the valve cover and the blower and you get a nice slow even heat. :D

Hey, I like that idea Jason !

Spooled on some new hydraulic hose this evening for the boom .

Cut the old cable at the wedge socket dead end & welded it to the new rope .

Then went inside the house & popped the wedge loose on the drum & pulled it out the top of the house .

Then manually pulled the new rope in .

Man that old cable was rotten !

Everything came apart & went back together good . I did trim the rope even with the drum with a cut off wheel after I seated the wedge .

Used the Kenworth mobile shop to do the job . Lowboy made for a nice platform to work off of .

Good news & bad news

Good news is the Hyhoe surprised me how well it handled this job .

This was an old pond and the silt was just solid enough to hold her up . " Dig real easy " when in the deep mud & don't make any sudden movements so we don't break through .

Got it all bailed out this evening . Had to move some of the material 3 times but grabbing full buckets each time was not to big of a deal .

Filled in the causeway on the last pass out .

And the cell phone went in with the mud on the last pass ...........

Hell with it ! Get more BS call's that interrupt the work during the day . See ya later cell phone , have a good time with the snapping turtles .:D

Going back " old school " . Still got a land line & answering machine .

If it's an emergency they seem to be able to find me anyhow .:D

The bad news is we won't use the Insley crane / dragline on this job :(

Got another job on the Patoka river lined up for the Insley so don't worry .LOL!

Heh. I've killed or lost many cell phones, mostly heavy equipment accidents. But the absolute best was putting a wellhead plate on the top of a 1250' water well with 960' of casing. Had the plate tacked on and leaned over to unscrew a shackle... Oops. Static water was at 450' or so and never heard a splash.

Yeah RZ , That was a long drop for the phone . LOL !

I've been enjoying my time without one .:)

Contacted some customers in the morning & evening on the " land line " explaining the situation .

Call & leave a message at the home phone & I'll get back with ya .

Just got tired of the bs calls during the work day that were not an emergency ..... There is only so much td25c to go around . LOL ! :lmao

I can see your desk now. Rotary dial phone and a reel to reel answering machine... " This is Jim Rockford, at the tone leave your name and number and I'll get back to you". :D

Still working on the second pond job on the same property .

This one did not have allot of mud in it .

Problem was it was missing a good part of the dam . Most of it slid down the hill side .

Talking to the customer he said this is the third time for a repair attempt on this pond .

I suggested we tame the dam down a few feet & give up a little water capacity at first .

Then after a few barley sodas that evening it hit me ...........:) :drinkup We should also install a " Toe drain " .

And that's what we did today . Hogged out a bench about 12 feet below the original keyway with the dozer & installed 4" perforated drain tile parallel to the dam .

Also incorporated the toe drain in with the 4 " overflow pipe that we will install as I get more dirt on top .

Don't do the toe drain very often but given the history & circumstance it was an easy decision on this job .

Pond also has a water system for cattle with 1 1/2 " water line though the dam . Installed the basin feed drain for it last week ." blue arrow " .

Hope that feller on the Fiat - Allis don't run over it . :lmao

Got a little rain this morning but not enough to shut us down .

Hogged with the Hyhoe & tossed it to the Fiat - Allis .

Those guys make a pretty good team , just don't tell them I said that . LOL !

Hope I can scratch up enough dirt to fill in the void left by the slide .
