The specification tag was hard to read, it was 1900 rpm and I'm guessing 180 to 210 hp.

I remember seeing one of these power units in the late 70's running a roll crusher in Benton City, Wa.

Bop, bop, bop, all day long, I think it was probably turning around 1400 rpm. You could see the smoke puffs when it loaded up.

It's really in good condition, Allen the owner ran it a couple of years ago. AC bought Buda out in 1953.

Yep, prior to that acquisition Allis Chalmers was using Detroit engines to power their crawler tractors. When they bought out Buda in '53 they quit making the HD-5 (Detroit powered) and started making the HD-6 with the Buda engine. The early HD-6 models had the D-344 4 cylinder, 57 HP. Later models had the 6000 series 4 cyl with HP that ranged from 69 to 75 HP. Back in my former lifetime I operated a drill rig mounted on a HD-6E with the 6000 series. Stout little engine that had really good low end HP and torque, and had a good sound tone to it as well.

That A-C 21,000 engine they used in the HD 21 crawlers was no slouch, Rebuilt a mid 60's powershift machine with the 285 HP engine and it could push and rip a D8K into the ground and rode better too. That 21000 with a 6" straight pipe could really talk.

Nope, that was my helper Chris Camacho, came in every Monday morning on time with a hangover and at least one black eye where he'd get in bar fights over the weekend. True story. Asked me one day if I had some aspirin, all I had was Goody Powders. He took two, after that day he wanted my whole box as they didn't sell them in Massachusetts.

I'm the skinny one on the left. But yeah, that drill rig worked ya, my shoulders are feeling the years of yanking a 36" pipe wrench.
