CNG Powered Volvo

A few months ago i saw a new Volvo tractor making a delivery at a store and saw some stuff hanging on the frame rails I didn't recognize. I took a closer look and started seeing stickers that stated it was powered by compressed natural gas. There were plastic panels hiding the oval saddle tanks and upon closer look I could see the fill ports. There wasn't much else to see. I waited until it pulled out, it didn't sound like a diesel yet didn't sound like the gas engines I used to hear either. I do believe it was a 6 though from the sound.

I've been curious about this truck ever since I saw it. I wonder about the ignition, spark or compression? Displacement? Power specs? Has anyone else seen one?

I have seen day cabs around here that have a box where a small sleeper would be that is labeled CNG.
That's the end of my knowledge.

Cummins has ISL-G and ISX12G available factory installed. They are designed off the diesel engines with different heads and pistons ect. The fuel cells are aftermarket based on the OEM configuration desired. They are both spark ignition engines with Coil on Plug design. Range can be up to and slightly over 500 miles. Popular in refuse and localized fleets that have access to or have their own fueling stations.

Our City has a whole fleet of CNG-powered garbage trucks and roll-off trucks. They are all Peterbilts, with Peterbilt CNG engines in them. I wonder who would be buyers for them when it is time for the city to replace them with new trucks? I would not think there would be much of a market for used CNG, heavy duty trucks.
