Very interesting! We have GM using a Japanese designed Isuzu diesel in their pickups and now a Japanese company using an American made diesel. Go figure!!

Yes, very interesting trucks. I like the Cummins V8 turbo diesel a lot, but I'm not the guy to buy a foreign truck, that includes the Japanese "Heartbeat" in the Chevy. If only Ford would put Caterpillar engines in their trucks again with todays technology. Now that would be a hit. Still trying to wrap my head around the Nissan with a V8 Cummins. That has to be an expensive option. I guess diesel has a place in this "ECO" wave with economy and efficiency.... I guess. Makes me think of the lady at the big rig diesel pumps last week in her VW diesel looking like she was a bit intimidated.

I used to work for a crane outfit back in the mid 80's that had a couple of those Ford Rangers with an itty bitty diesel in them. Those things were so gutless they wouldn't even get out of their own way. Big difference with the diesel engines they use now, but they sure are as high tech as a gas engine as well.

Ford's 6.7 is a power house, the first Ford made diesel in the F-series. The motor is impressive but I only have 7K on the odo so time will tell if they hold up. I wonder if Cat would be interested in the light truck market?

It would seem to me that Cat would take the market share in whatever light truck they decided to put their motor in, just from the brand recognition - all those office types who drive 3/4 tons back and forth to work would like to have a Cat badge to add to their manhood..

I read in one article that the Cummins option in the Titan would be around $4K, which I thought was cheap.

its been my impression that that cummins v8 has been around for awhile but its been sat on due to "economic" reasons. I was also told that ford had a v6 diesel that they have shelved for the same reasons (mini powerstroke if i remember correctly).

I thought ford was putting the mini powerstroke in their Rangers but only in countries like Brazil.
In pretty much every other country around the world you can get a Toyo, Nissan, Ford, Izuzu truck with a diesel. I think the Ranger overseas has a I4 or I6 Ford diesel but they may have changed. No emissions crap in other countries, neat clean inline common rail turbo diesels are available in just about all makes.

Hyundai makes a good small diesel engine from what I have heard.

I guess the saying is true " anytime you can't find what you want at a reasonable price, government is involved".

My uncle has a 1982 VW rabbit with a diesel motor with over 200,000 miles and still chugging. Even though it has next to no power it still takes him down the road at something like 30 mpg. When my 6.0 started having trouble I started looking real hard at that little 4 cylinder smoke moster.

Talking to friend who is a cummins district manager and he told me that cummins and dodge were splitting the sheets and that cummins and Nissan and Toyota were now getting in bed with each other. He also said that dodge is going with a fiat diesel

Did Fiat buy a portion of Dodge? But maybe not unless Daimler sold there part. I obviously don't keep up on who owns whom.

I was told Ford owns Cummins and was happy selling engines to Dodge instead of using them back in powerstroke days. Does anybody know who owns who ?

Welcome to the Forus mike kahl!:D

At one time Ford did own a stake (as in shares) in Cummins but never "owned" it our right. They may still have an investment of shares in Cummins but Cummins is their own corporate entity.

The Dodge 1500 diesel is getting an Italian made diesel that ironically is a joint venture between Fiat and GM.:cool2

The Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan is reported to share the same V8 Cummins engine, that should be interesting to see how the market share goes.

I just heard that Dodge has sold out the first run of D1500 diesels in less that 3 days of preorders. Pretty impressive!

I read that too. That has prompted Ford to dust off the baby Stroke plans for the F150.

So Fiat owns Chrysler which is Dodge, so they will be using there own engines? Hopefully it will be quality built.
