Fuel Biocide treatment

I use very little diesel fuel from my bulk tank in the winter. Wondering what anyone uses for a preventive fuel treatment to prevent algae type problems? I had the problem in my truck fuel tank last winter and used Startron fuel tank cleaner which did an excellent job. Would like to put something in my bulk tank this year. There are several on the market, looking for your experience, good or bad, with a particular product. Thanks.

I like Powerservice products. Couldn't find Bio-Kleen around here, only the Clear Diesel. Did find the Startron Diesel fuel biocide and put some of that in. Probably run to the Pilot when I get a chance and buy the Powerservice. I use Powerservice Diesel Kleen with cetane boost every time I have my bulk tank filled. It has worked for me. When i forget to put it in before a fill up I can tell the difference

I think it is likely more common as you go south as people tend to not run higher concentrations of Bio in colder climates. I can't say I've ever seen it on a shelf here either.

I think your right about the problem being more prevalent in warmer climates. The only problem I have had is when my truck spent the winter in my shop, which I keep at 55 deg. I treated my bulk tank as a preventive measure. I'm guessing it is not a real big issue in Michigan in the winter. Most problems in this area comes from filling your truck at a truck stop that has contaminated fuel.

I did find the Startron at West Marine. Their fuel tank cleaner worked excellent last year when I had black stains inside my truck fuel tank. I think it was from contamination. In 2 days the tank was shiny aluminum inside with no fuel filter clogging.
