It's got a cop motor, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks...

Yep, departments around here are already looking at what will replace them. Baffles me why Ford is phasing out a vehicle that had a near guaranteed market buyer.

They've already begun replacing them in my area with Ford's replacement Interceptors based on the Taurus and Explorer chassis. I've done some reading on them and Ford really went to town specializing them for police duty with beefed up suspension, integrated roll cage, ballistic panels in the doors and run flat tires. They are factory equipped with provisions for lighting packages too. According to their data the all wheel drive Taurus will go 148mph! It's faster in both acceleration and top speed than the Crown Vic ever thought of being. Our Sheriff's Dept. has bought quite a few of each.

They also have bought a number of Dodge Chargers and believe it or not they are equipped with V6 engines. The cost is $1800 less than the V8 model so that's the route they went. I'm curious to see how well all of these hold up under severe service for the life of the car. They are running them around here to 150,000 miles before they turn them over.

The State Police are experimenting with the Chevy Caprice, Ford Taurus and Dodge Charger. I've yet to see an Explorer in NYSP trim. Both departments have a number of Chevy Tahoes.

The Crown Vic sales had dropped off so much that Ford withdrew them from the retail market in 2008, only fleet sales to police and taxi agencies were offered after that. I guess that wasn't enough to keep them viable, and from what I've read the Taurus is a much better car. I'm still interested to see how they hold up compared to the Crown Vic.

Those are some impressive options steve. I like the all wheel drive and at 148 mph should get the job done.:specool

Crown Vic was a legend. It was in production for more than a decade and that definitely says something.

The city, county and state troopers in AL seem to all be going the Tahoe route.

The Washington State Patrol buy and drive any make or color anymore. And the way the unmarked are outfitted you don't know what it is except for
the wasp or WSP license plate. And the blue lights in ones mirror.

Lately I've seen a few on I-90 with regular plates... One a plain F-150 crew cab, the other was a black charger with some fancy wheels. Both had Boys in Blue trooper hats talking to their "customers". I do recall around 2002 there was a purple Chevy lowrider pickup doing Gotchas on hiway 240 in Kennewick... Drug seizure? It was manned by a WSP trooper.
Its funny to watch the superspeeders blow past that F-150, and then the lights go on.

Do you remember the green Plymouths the WSP had in the early 70's? Those cars were meant to fly. A friend worked at the mopar dealer and told me those had factory
aluminum intakes with the same cam shaft as the 70 GTX 440. I know those cars had a rumble to them.

Oh, yeah. I was driving a dump with an 8V71 and one of those passed me in a hurry... All I heard was that Thermo-Quad gulping air, the Detroit was pretty quiet next to that. Those massive St. Regis cars they used in the late 70s were on nearly the same level.440s in them I believe.

I've got a 440 GTX cam around here somewhere and a Hurst T handle..Ron G
Ron if that cam is factory mopar and the lobes were good-I hope you stored it standing on end or hanging. There are people looking for stuff like that.
Some people have to have all original-from that era parts.

It is a factory cam but as I remember it is stored in the Crane box the replacement came in Mike. The cam is good,it was a low mileage engine that came apart for something else, the dealer did the work. The car belonged to my BIL.Ron G
