Looking for the right home for me...

Hello everyone, obviously I am new to this forum. I am looking for the right forum for me, I recently inherited a 1974 N70 (LN700) dump truck. It is in good condition as it has been barn stored and only driven periodically the last 3-4 years. I joined the FTE (Ford Truck Enthusiasts) forum and there are a couple of really knowledgeable members but it is apparent that I have questions that are not being given even the least bit of response.

I have NEVER owned a large truck but have been a Ford man my whole life, I currently own a 2004 F350 SD 6.0 extended cab, long bed. 1985 F250 with 351w, and 3 ford tractors as well as the new edition '74 LN700, it has the 361 FT (HD) engine, 5 speed with 2 speed rear-end. It has a 9000 lb front axle as well. The GVW is 26000 even so no CDL is required (thank God).

I just need to learn about this vehicle, find some parts and meet some good people... I enjoy conversation, I will give you respect and in return I would appreciate the same.

One last note, I agree with Steve Frazier's quote: "God, Guns & Guts made America Free!!". I am a beginning gun collector and have around 20 different weapons at this point... I know this forum is for trucks but his comment deserved recognition...

Our public servants rule with "intimidation" and "scare" tactics. Their aggressive tactics are considered abuse and the American people need to take back what our founding fathers made clear for us.

Damn, sorry for the rant... sometimes I get a little "patriotic"... LOL

Just my 2 cents but the 361 was the industrialized version of the 360, it was fairly common in Ford mediums in the early and mid 70s.

Welcome to the forums. What questions do you have? I am a lot more familiar with the F-series trucks than the Ls but I've worked on them some, too. I'm probably familiar with your drivetrain. I've spent a good bit of time with the 361. It is in the HD330, 361, 391, series of engines.

Ditto what Mitch504 said . Another thread where we were talking about older ford trucks & gas engines . On page 2 I had a few pictures in framing a 361 in my buddys cab over Ford . We also have a 1977 Ford F600 digger derrick truck that has the 361 in it . Seems like a pretty good engine . I remember when we were rebuilding the 361 few years ago parts house had trouble finding standard pistons , .30 over were no problem . The engine also had a few pistons in it that only had two compression rings ? I assume these pistons were 360 automotive . The 361 pistons will have 3 compression rings .
