NY DMV Rules Changes

I just learned the hard way that NY DMV has changed their rules regarding the DOT Medical Card. I got a letter a couple weeks ago that my CDL had been suspended due to an expired medical card, yet I had renewed it last October. I went to the local DMV office to find out what had happened and learned that NY DMV now requires you to send a copy of the renewed medical certificate to them prior to the old one expiring. This was never the case previously, you were on your honor to keep it up to date or risk a ticket if you happened to be stopped or have a DOT inspection. I was required to produce my birth certificate and pay $17.50 in order to have my CDL and endorsements restored. Hopefully this helps someone avoid the same problem.

This would be good to have on the other forum for those of us who may never get here. Thanks for the info.I can't take my DOT physical because I have had seizures they say so am not eligible any more,in fact they tell me not to drive at all.My argument is that heart patients can have heart attacks but can still drive, how am I any different? They say I am different....hah!Darlene loves it.Ron G

In Pennsylvania the DMV sent me a letter saying I had to mail them a copy of my new health card when my old one was close to expiring. I also had to tell them where I was working and still driving or they might pull my license.

At least they gave you notice! NY made the change without notifying drivers. I know quite a few who had the same trouble as me.
