Odd place this engine ended up.

This old 454 lived all it's life in a 73 3/4 ton Chevy. If it had a mind it would never dream it would end up here. I built this engine, mounts,
installed, plumbed and rewired the boat. It puts out 484 HP, on the dyno at 5000. I finished it four years ago. The boat is a 73 Sanger hull.
I have built a lot of performance engines thru the years. I do not own this boat. Nor would I own that boat. LOL

Back before I got my own boat I used to pick our dump trailers drivers daughter, yup, that B-75,on my bike and head down to the Connecticut river to spend the day with a buddy.Phil Long on his boat,A Sanger hull with a 454 in it.Of course I did not have the foresite to carry a camera so I have no pictures to share. His 454 did not look like your pics Mike, that looks to good to get hot.Wow!Back in the '70s when the 454ci first came out there was a nice black Chevelle in Meriden, the next town over back then that used to come to Southington to run my BIL in his Hemi 'Cuda on I84.We blew his doors in every time.I still had my '68 RoadRunner,he traded his GTX in on the "Cuda.Ron G

I've built a lot of HP engines through the years, but in the 70's and early 80's I mainly ran Fairlanes. I had one 66GT 390 4sp and two 66GTA's. One of the
GTA's had a SCJ 428 and a manual shift C6 auto. I had a ton of money in that one. The heads had 427 valves and a 427 green strip solid cam along with
a factory sidewinder intake topped off with a Holley 850 three barrel and roller rockers. LeMans rods and forged 11.5 pistons. When you side stepped it
that three barrel was like flushing a toilet. LOL

That is funny Mike!I was a Mopar man back then so I was used to the Thermoquads. What did you burn for gas with those pistons?Back in those days we could get Amoco white gas,I used to burn it even with what I drove.I can't find it any more.Ron G

There was an oil distributor in town that had pumps at his bulk plant. One had aviation gas. LL 100 it worked fine for a street car ride. Little spendy though.
I didn't drive that car much just Saturday nights, After I built it I could hardly afford it.

I just sold my 84 Dodge shortbox 4x4 last year. It was pretty nice old truck, owned it 23 years. Have some pics if your interested.

Here is my '83,I drove it for about 12 years.I still have it and it still runs like a charm. It has the 318 with the thermoquad, has A/C but uses R-12 so it will be tough to get it charged these days. This pic is when I first got it in '89 so she doesn't look this good days.I would love to see yours too.Ron Gcrop0039.jpgcrop0038.jpg

nice, that engine is a work of art.
Stuff like this it's why my hearing is shot though.
Thanks, Those Basset headers on that 454 are load as hell. The owner was stopped by a sheriffs patrol boat and was told to put the baffles back in it
or get a ticket.

That's a nice looking 83 Ron. I now wish I hadn't sold mine, I just sold the last complete 440 with trans. I had five of them stowed away. It was a 67 engine,
But I know where there are four more and a 400 I can make a 451 stroker out of. I will post my pics under the Dodge section.
