This truck was in for service at the local upfitter shop, it's owned by a town in the area. I couldn't see what engine was in it, the fender liners are pretty tight. It sure is huge!!

It's fitted with LED axillary headlights by Trucklite. I've never seen these before and would like to see them working at night.

Hi Steve,
Sweet truck:cool::. I bet that thing is seven feet to to top of the hood. Surprised its not set up for a benching wing? Was a popular truck for the NYS Thruway.

You know, I didn't notice that!! Seems like a waste of truck! Our County has a couple of them set up with wings, I was told they cost $250,000 back in 2008!

Those are pretty good looking lights. Are there multiple bulbs inside the case? Those extra lights are needed as soon as you put on a front plow because the lower, regular headlights become ineffective. The "plow lights" as we call them are really important in a snowstorm at night but if they are too broad a beam - then they are almost useless because you can't see anything! Like driving with high beams on your vehicle in a heavy snowstorm, light is reflected off too much snow. I used to find fog lights worked good on my pickup in some cases, during night/snowstorm driving.

I remember seeing those when I was a kid. My uncle worked for a town in NY and they had the big V plow with double wings. Meeting one of them on the road could be a little scary. They would pick up the dr. side wing so you could get by but, you had to drive through the pile of snow that the wind left.

Ive always thought an Oshkosh like that would make the ultimate service truck with an IMT or Autocrane body installed on it. My poor F-800 is getting tired of the attempts to choker train it. Usually behind a D-8. Lol.

Steve,
Those lights are extremely bright, I believe they are 1350 lumens. They put out a beam of light that reaches out about 200 yards easily. We wanted some for our trucks but they were too much money for them to buy, 700 dollars for a pair.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize they'd be so expensive!
No kidding:confused: If you look on northern tool they have what looks to be the same light except that it does not have high and low beam, or the blinker. I think they are only about 70 bucks. And as far as the high and low beam the trucklight ones did not light up some of the led's for low beam. I don't think it would be that hard to add a blinker and split off some of the led's for low beam. I would be definitely cheaper than 700 bucks.

I have an LED flashlight that I populated with 4 eneloop batteries, that is the cats meow.It is very bright as would be expected. You can recharge those over 2000 times and they will hold 70% of their charge for 5 years.I had the Sanyo eneloops in one of my digital cameras before I got sick and when I got home three years later they would still take pics with flash.Sanyo developed that technology.Panasonic now has that technology and the last batteries I bought were the Panasonc brand but,as usual, they were fully charged when they arrived, just take them out of the package and use them.Sorry to hijack the thread.Ron G
