Question on early 8V92

RZ- What year did Detroit start producing the 92? And weren't those double 00 series with some 8V71 parts? Looking at a KW W100 with a 110" cab late 70's.
The owner say's it run's real strong, leaks everywhere. Hasn't been run for ten years plus. He just know's it's Detroit powered. I'm thinking it's either a 92 or
12V71. I should know for sure when I look at it in a week or two. Thanks

Wiki says 1974. I looked it up last week when someone posted an early 70s Diamond Reo that claimed to have a 92 in it. I didn't think they were made that early. Wiki also says the early 92s were bored out 71s.

It's kinda funny, Right after TS posted we talked on the phone, Yes the early 92's (OO series) were over bored 8V71s, IIRC those early blocks had some weakness issues that limited them to 405 HP. After '77-78 the blocks for the 92 had heavier webs for the main journals and heavier main caps to eliminate cracking issues. I was party to repowering the front engine of a Wabco scraper with an early 8V92 that was "bumped" a bit in HP and it had a block crack 18 months later. The crack was in the rear just above the rear main bearing allowing coolant into the oil. Again, IIRC... the warranty engine was a Silver 92 at 404HP. This was in 1980.
