Hi. First time posting here. Hope to get some opinions on the gasket choices when installing new turbo. I bought an aftermarket turbo and it came with the rectangular steel gasket that goes between the exhaust manifold and the turbo. It does not have the split inthe middle like the original one. I know from previous dealing with cat that they think it's very important to have that seal between the two halves. I don't really understand the need for separation there but want to do this right The turbo supplier insists that its not necessary Any opinions you have are appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to HTF.

Cat says it screws with the exhaust gas pulses entering the turbo plus without it the divider in the exhaust port will burn out or erode. When I change out a
Cat turbo I use there gaskets or Cat gaskets where ever on their engines, have better luck doing it that way.IMO Now on Detroit Series 60 for example
the steel shim turbo to manifold gasket is open, no divider. And it doesn't seem to effect or burn out the divider as bad. But the Detroit exhaust manifold
cracks the center section and are replaced so often the divider doesn't get a chance to burn out. Personally I would use the Cat gaskets and new mounting
bolts to install it.

Thanks for your reply. I was leaning that way already but I appreciate hearing your opinion
I will likely feel better with the right gasket in there and since my manifold is in decent shape, it'll protect it from erosion, for a while
