Hi Classictruckman,
Yep, that would lessen some fillings in your teeth.
Are you near Renfrew? How's the winter been, I know I am ready for spring.Lol
I assume by you're handle you have a classic truck?

I run enddumps and truck/pups. Same question always pops up... How in the world could you not notice the box in the air?? :oops:canada2

live about 20 min from Renfrew, weathers all over the place. sort of have a classic truck, a '73 ford f250, I considered that classic back in highschool when I got it.

I bought an old '62 White dump to build my home with. It had a cable activated PTO and lever to operate the up/down valve, the lever had very little resistance to it. One day while hauling material the PTO didn't disengage and at some point the lever moved itself to the "Up" position. I had traveled about a half mile when I checked the mirrors and saw the body had gone up. The truck was so noisy and full of vibration I didn't have any hint that the PTO was still engaged. I held my breath on the return trip but fortunately I hadn't done any damage to anything. After that I fixed a bungee cord to the valve lever to hold it in the down position.

I'd think with a trailer you'd feel it wobbling before it got too high up.

I would think you would see it in your mirrors. I am always looking out mine, constantly.

The job I left was on a side street with literally no traffic, as soon as I pulled on to the more traveled street I checked the mirrors and saw it had gone up. I watch my mirrors quite a bit, in fact there are 3 teenagers who are alive today because that's my practice. While I was sitting at a red light in traffic I checked the mirrors before pulling away when it changed green to see them coming out from under the box trailer I was pulling. Thinking about this situation again it was probably closer to a quarter mile or less from the job site and again, on a street with no traffic.

I used to make it a habit to "tickle" my PTO lever quite often and it has saved me sometimes over the years. It was part of my dump routine, another was to not close my tailgate until I got to the pit or quarry especially if you happened to be driving something with an air gate because if there happened to be an obstruction to keep the dogs from closing properly on the gate pins you wouldn't know it unless you took a walk back to look at it and my contention was that the gate would rattle enough on the return trip to dislodge what ever might be caught in it and very likely close properly before your next load.Don't worry about forgetting it,the loader operator won't let you forget it.Ron G
