ELD Rules Have Been Published

I see that the rules for electronic log devices are now out (for the U.S at least). I was worried that people like myself who do not run many miles annually and have older trucks would be required to use these as well, but there are exemptions if:

Your truck is older than a 2000 year model.

You are required to run a log book 8 days or less in a 30 day period.

It looks like my company will be exempt! The value of pre-2000 trucks may have just gone up a bit.

Here is a link describing the mandate: https://e.randmcnally.com/pub/cc?_ri_=X0Gzc2X=YQpglLjHJlYQGjng6zgLwKuzazc98mqNzazazeTmsUJdpzckcIpza95zbYwLeyjgzgwEaJVXtpKX=ASRTY&_ei_=EolaGGF4SNMvxFF7KucKuWNr3gYlhwonouLLuLaHqAlFsTLAqDOb5hZSIMtipwIh8JtO0DxzspSFzsUSyVoj.

Until last year I would always make some wise alec response like "what are these catalytic converters/DPF/EGR things you're talking about ;-)
Then last year I bought my wife a TDI.
Sorry, way off topic.

I previously worked for a company with electronic logs. When you leave, you have no "this is what I've been doing" record.

I read a bit of the contents link that I posted earlier, and I believe that one of the conditions of the new mandate is that the driver can retain all of his ELD records, so maybe that is a plus?
