That's a good question Steve . Each bay is 16' wide and was able to back the truck in at an angle & parallel park it in the center of the building . Then we set the I beams in through the side with the skid loader .

Agree willie59 . It's an ugly rig made for ugly jobs . The Deep reduction gear really came in handy on this job . Just took it slow & easy . I did come close to scratching the paint on the digger / derrick truck as we went by . Had a few inches to spare . Man, you've got bigger stones than me!! I get real uncomfortable trying to move something with my skid steer I can't see around, I think I'd hyperventilate trying to attempt this!

You know the strange thing is I'm actually pretty comfortable while we are moving . On the other hand I get bent out of shape & break out in a cold sweat in the delivery room when the wife is giving birth . Happens every time ..... Doc grabs the baby , looks at me and asks would you like to cut the umbilical cord ? I reply hell no , that's why we hired you guys !

As for guiding the building my dad was spotting outside plus I had paint marks on the ground that I would keep the drivers side steering tire beside . The old truck was pretty stable , It has the Hendrixson walking beams in the rear and we also blocked between the top of the springs & frame Plus chained & boomed each side down to help stabilize the top heavy load .

I sure appreciate the complement Steve but cant take credit for it .

Owe most of what I have & know to my first employer when I was still in high school . Guy would take on about any kind of job without fear & pretty much let me ( an 18 year old knuckle head ) do the job how I saw fit . He might step in an interject at times but as long as the job got done he was happy .

Then after trade school I lucked out again . Got hired on at a Truck & equipment repair shop that had heavy wrecker service . Got a good education there as well . Boss was the same way , pretty much let us do a job how we wanted to . He didn't stand over your shoulder & try to tell you every move to make . At age 21 I got the ( You Are In Charge ) speech from him . LOL ! That meant go do the job and don't call back with some petty problem we might have along the way .

Both men were great mentors & influenced the direction of my work . All I can do is pass it down to my son & hope it works out for him .

Got a clearing job we need to go to after rain quits & dry's up a bit .

Gabbed the K/G blade this afternoon with the FWD truck & backed it up to the shop to sharpen the cutting edge .

Finished up servicing blade , got a nice edge on it with the grinder . Greased up turnbuckle arms & had to weld a few old stress cracks around a pin boss . She's ready to go .

Dropped it back off in the lot where the dozer can pull in & hook up to it easy .

Third photo I was lifting the blade arm to crib it up so can pull right in with the dozer . Damn ! Just noticed I scuffed up the paint on the tailboard . Back to the body shop for some touch up black paint work . :D

Removed simi - U blade from dozer & added K/G blade trunnions . Been using a 1/2 drive Dewalt 110 v impact lately & really like it , use welder on Kenworth to power it . And with a little assistance from the Ford rough terrain crane got the K/G mounted .

Those FWD cabs were made by Dodge weren't they? Or did FWD have rights to make that cab from Dodge?

That's correct Truck Shop . I assume FWD just bought cabs from Dodge .

Ours is a 1969 model , seems like they made a cab change in the early 70's . It had more of a square box look to it similar to an Oshkosh .

Did a " lot move " on a canopy top at a fuel station that was in major renovation with the FWD /Grove rig.

Moved it about 300 feet to the new setting .

Just made multiple picks swinging it & moving the rig every time .

July 1st starts out with an early morning A/C set at Chicago's Pizza .

Took the FWD / Grove unit . Got the York conditioner set and the boys had her blowin ice cubes by 9:30 Am .

Store opens at 11:00 am if anyone wants hot pizza & cold air :)

Store owner was concerned that we would not get it up & running on time as 4th July weekend is busy time for them .

I tolled him not to worry as we would make the Air conditioner " Great Again " :cowboy. LOL ! Happy 4th :salute:usa

Had to swap out an 8 " drop tube & re plum for 10" .

Used second drum with Bosun's chair to rig it .

Kind of a maze wandering around all the tubes & guy wires . Radios sure helped out on this job .

HVAC contractor yells at me when they need a lift .

I did go get the boy's some breakfast & coffee after parking the crane , helped them pull a few wires .

Been with this contractor for 25 years . Pretty good group of guys to work with .

They also call us for dirt work as well .

Detroit trouble

We pulled in to the grain elevator job and all the sudden truck engine develops a miss .

Not a big deal as the house has it's own Detroit to lift with . Positioned the truck for the lifts and when we finished up pulled the rig out back for diagnosis & repair . First changed fuel filters with no change .

Number 1 cylinder was a dead miss ,exhaust manifold port cold as a cucumber & pulled valve cover & held each injector down while running .

This will be easy . I dropped a spare N65 spark plug in the number 1 hole & still missed .

Ran the engine a little longer and she got worse until it finally quit .

Started at the tank " drop tube " , it looked fine . Then moved up to the primary filter housing , removed the suction line & noticed a little rust inside it ......

Removed the brass 90 degree fitting at the filter base and found a problem , she was clogged with rust flakes .
cleaned it up and got the engine running again .

Left with it This morning to another job and she started acting up again about 8 miles down the road .

Pulled of to the side of the road & double checked everything . Nothing clogged that I could see ?

Limped the rest of the home & drained fuel tank , power washed the hell out of it & " shop vacked " it .

Replaced the 20 foot long suction line as well , old stiff airoquip style hose . Filled her back up & took a short drive this evening and it seems to be fine now ?

Just wonder it I had a compound problem ? The rust in the bass fitting shut us down for sure .

The old suction hose was pretty stiff & nasty lookin , might be separating from the inside causing a blockage ?

Got to set a unit in the morning . I might just take the CCC crane & experiment more with the FWD & make sure we got all the cobwebs out of the attic :D

I think you have it handled. I've seen quite a bit of that in seasonal use trucks, cleaning the tank is the way to go. A good screen between the tank and primary could be a good idea?

We moved the FWD rig this morning to a job .

She ran fine screaming all the way :)

We had a compound problem ..... I hate those !

Rust in the tank plus fuel suction line causing trouble .

Nice to make noise now with full fuel to the injectors .


Thank God I did not have to call some young feller to come out & plug a " lap top " in to it to fix the problem . LOL ! :D
