Two Story Ford

A friend of mine owned this 1980 two story ford. The first two 00-8V92's went south on him so it ended up with a silver 92.
The first few miles driving it were strange with the floating cab for me. He ran from Ellensburg Wa to L.A. once a week.

I remember seeing many of those. It seemed that the cab leveling had issues on many of them because I would often see them going down the road with the cab tilted to one side or another.

The front bushings where the cab hinged would go bad causing the cab to list. The owner of this one had to replace them several times.
The 9000's looked heavy but they were really a fairly lite tractor. And pretty quite inside for there day.

Those were nice looking trucks .

Had a customer that drove one . Cab would rock around when taking a corner in the road . They road pretty good as far as driver comfort .

What ended it for him was cost of replacement parts for the air ride cab . Ford was pretty proud on price of air bag's .

We ended up welding a pipe with bolt flanges on each end to replace the air bags . Made it solid again so the guy could move on & make a living . I remember the bags going for like $250 a piece back in the early 1990's .
