Dang that brings back memories.
I remember bringing dad lunch while he was wrenching on one just like that in the 80s.
I'm the same way Jason . Ya just don't forget those moments . even though that photo was taken over 40 years ago it seems like yesterday .:) That was on a job for the Corps Of Engineers on a lake project . Grand Dad & Uncle were both working on it along with many others so I got to spend a little time on the site . Time sure flies !

Project was a success ! Lake filled first year after completed .

Now you won't hear me say this often ....... Those lake projects by the Army Corps Of Engineers were an excellent example of well spent tax payer dollars .

They cured flooding issues , provided good public recreation , and most important drinking water for tens of thousands of people . :specool

In my opinion we need to build more of them .

well its a great idea!!! but what about the quality???
Good question alexlee .

Assume your asking about the 24" drop in to the 36" culvert connection ?

We pondered this for a few day's on the best way to do it . That's a nice way of sayin Me and the Old Man went a few rounds . LOL !

Threw out the issue to another member and came up with a plan .

Feel pretty good about the decision to stay with the ADS plastic pipe , ( no rust out issues in the future )

The 6' X 8' concrete ( collar ) around the fitting not only locks it all together but also acts as a structural support much like a " crane outrigger crib pad " .

She aint goin nowhere .:)

Looks top quality to me.
That concrete is more than adequate and the joint in the ADS is nice and tight.

At times I wonder where the hell my interest started in this line of work with trucks & equipment ?

Was helping Mom & the Old Man move some ruck out of the house & noticed some old photo's ........

That's td on the Terex TS14 around 1973 . Mystery solved ! Detroit Diesels kick ass :D
Man I love a good TS-14, tough, productive machines. Ran one back in the 80's that had a turbo 4-71 in the front and it was balanced just about perfectly powerwise. But my pet machine was the TS-24 with a 12V71 up front and the 6-71 in the rear, it would have been cool to have about 270 HP in the rear though if the convertor and trans could handle it.

You and me both love them rzucker .

Imagine the TS 24 with 12V up front & 6-71 behind was quite the dirt hog .:thumbsu

One thing that is most attractive to myself about a TS 14 scraper is it will work good on large or small jobs . Kind of like a D7 size dozer .

Now don't go thinkin I'm falling for a Terex . We are WABCO people though and through .:)

It's raining again

Just glad to be at this point on the dirt job with all the rain lately . All the pipe is buried and tile connections are tied in .

Got grade up to the top of the 24" riser this morning and the rain cut loose on me about 11:00 AM .

It's a good felling to see the water running through the fitting .:)

I'll drop on some Supertramp .

Old Gimmy movin a grain bin .
Few more photos of the grain bin move job .

Used the K 12 Insley to lift & set the bin on & off the lowboy . Had to add a 10 foot boom section so we had clearance between the boom and bin roof. There just went 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back . LOL!

We rig the bin through the roof lid with a bud style truck wheel & tire . Tire makes contact with the roof sections on the bin .

We then drop 6 chokers off the wheel and bolt brackets to the bin walls snugging it all up with chain hoists so we are lifting off of multiple points .

The bolt on brackets also give us a chain down point to secure it to the lowboy . Probably don't need to chain it down but with my luck moving a bin in late July is when a big old black cloud storm rolls up on us in the middle of a project . Batten down the hatch boy's , looks like she's going to blow pretty bad .:D

Back to the dirt job

Got done with the clearing part of the job so had the 750 bring me the dirt blade for the dozer to cut in the road to the new home site .

Unloaded it with the excavator , then unbuckled the K/G blade off the 16 and set it on the tail of the lowboy .

Shoved it up in place with the excavator , chained her down & shagged out with it .

Just glad I took that mail order crane & rigging course for $ 29.95 , It's paid for itself already .:)

Oil changes all around yesterday on job site . Actually found some Shell 30 wt for the Detroit in the excavator .

Second photo shows what's going on , blue arrow is the 24" vertical drop for the ditch line water, yellow is the road , and the white arrow on top is the new home site .

Pretty much crossing a deep ravine & then crawling up a hill side to the final destination . Got about half way down the hill with the road and a pile of dirt with the 16 this evening .

I love these jobs , landscape is similar to West Virginia or California . Give me them hills !:D

For the youngsters on the web site this is what a proper counter weight on an excavator looks like .

Made out of cast iron with threaded lifting points , & pockets to store your ruck for the work day .:D

Got down to the bottom of the hill this evening with the road .

Area above the road was at a 1 to 1 slope to begin with , took advantage that it had allot of green stuff & trees growing on it and decided to leave it be as is and drop below it leaving the green stuff undisturbed . We get about 45 to 50 " rain fall a year so soil erosion is a problem on slopes like this .

That's what we thought as well Jason .

Had to move a little more dirt & build up from the bottom but having established growth on a slope like that is money in the bank .

I'll sure do what I can to point the rain clouds in your direction Jason .:)

At beginning of spring we feared another drought this summer like we had back in 2012 http://www.heavyequipmentforums.com/showthread.php?29828-Hot-weather-is-hurting-crops&p=369639&viewfull=1#post369639

That sure did not happen this year . Customer on this job had me take out a lot of dead trees that fell pray to the 2012 drought .

He said they all started dying from the top down and that was a sign of dry weather stress . Probably something to that I imagine .

The weather out here for summer has been fairly mild only a few stints of 100* days. Last year was a toaster for two and a half months.

Here lately temps been running high 80's to 90 with high humidity & rain . Perfect weather for crops & barley soda .;)

Had to adjust the brakes on the 16 , generally run them pretty loose with the peddle on the floor . Snugged them up a bit for working the slopes .

Got the road job finished up & grass seed spread on it . It's nearing mid August and normally would not seed but with all the pop up rain showers we thought " what the hell " , try it & see what happens .:)

Used a fiberglass catwalk type grate to cover the vertical drop . Small sticks & debris will try to stop it up , customer picked it up cheap so we will try it out .

Other wise pretty happy we went with the 24" size on the drop pipe . When dealing with moving water generally pays to go bigger when in doubt .

More rain comming

Good lord ! This is August and should be dry as a popcorn fart !

Weather is calling for 3 to 5 inch rain fall starting this week end .

Swapped out the narrow fiberglass catwalk grate thinking it will possibly stop up with debris for a rock screen with 4" x 4" openings .

Been a crazy wet summer here .
